The secure mailbox can accommodate envelopes or boxes that cannot be dropped.
GUELPH, Ont. – Danby Parcel Guard has been voted as Product of the Year Canada in the Home category for 2019.
The Parcel Guard is built to keep online deliveries safe – no more worrying about “porch pirates” or missed deliveries. it is a large black box that sits on the homeowner’s porch.
The delivery driver simply opens Parcel Guard’s anti-theft drop slot and places the packages inside. The box then locks, and sends a notification through the app that the package is secure. Additional features include wireless connectivity, motion-activated IP camera, tamper alarm and weight monitor.
The unit is 39.4 inches tall, 19.7 inches wide and 15.9 inches deep. The drop slot is 10- by 15- by eight-inches deep, large enough to accommodate standard package sizes. The box includes a sticker to let drivers know to drop packages in it instead of leaving them by the door.
For large (or fragile) items that need to be placed inside the box instead of dropped, the driver simply scans the package which triggers the safe door to unlock. The box also includes wireless connectivity, a motion-activated IP camera (to see the delivery in action), a tamper alarm, and a weight monitor.
This is not the first award for Danby Appliances’s newest innovation. In January it received a TWICE Picks Award at CES 2019, and more recently was the runner-up for the International Housewares Association’s Global Innovation Awards in the Smart Home category.
“I’m thrilled with how Parcel Guard is being received by consumers and the industry. It’s time we change the way we receive packages, considering the growth of the e-commerce industry,” says Jim Estill, CEO of Danby Appliances and inventor of the unit.
“I truly believe every home in North America will have a Parcel Guard or another parcel mailbox within the next decade.”
