The Canadian Trucking Alliance says it supports new federal legislation aimed at improving transportation infrastructure, trade corridors and working conditions for truck drivers.
The alliance says Bill C-39, the Building Canada Strong Act, would streamline federal approvals for major transportation projects, including highways and border crossings, and support improvements to intermodal freight connections.
The group also supports measures aimed at digitizing cross-border freight, including paperless customs clearance and electronic shipping documents. It says the changes could reduce administrative work and delays for carriers.
The legislation would also introduce structured dispute-resolution mechanisms for federally regulated transportation sectors and expand enforcement related to worker misclassification and workplace health and safety, according to the alliance.
CTA president and CEO Stephen Laskowski said the measures would help strengthen trade corridors and reduce administrative barriers at the border.
The alliance said it will continue working with the federal government and other industry stakeholders as it reviews the legislation and its implementation.
