Canada Cartage to acquire B.C.-based Coastal Pacific Xpress

Canada Cartage, one of North America’s largest transportation and logistics providers, announced plans to acquire Surrey, B.C.-based Coastal Pacific Xpress (CPX).

Founded in 1986, CPX is a temperature-sensitive carrier in Western Canada. The company specializes in refrigerated full truckload (FTL) and less-than-truckload (LTL) transportation, operating cold storage cross-docks and warehouses in Surrey, B.C., and Calgary, Alta. CPX also offers freight brokerage services and operates a fleet that includes a mix of company drivers, owner-operators, and nearly 600 temperature-controlled trailer units.

The acquisition aligns with Canada Cartage’s existing services, particularly in the grocery and food sectors. CPX’s operations in Western Canada and the western U.S. complement Canada Cartage’s food and beverage transportation services in B.C., Alberta and the U.S. coastal states. With the addition of CPX’s expertise, Canada Cartage says the combined network will provide a seamless national solution for temperature-sensitive transportation, spanning both Western and Eastern Canada.

The deal, which remains subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals, is expected to be finalized in December.
