Amazon’s first solar roof in Canada powered up in Alberta

Amazon’s DYB2 delivery station in Nisku, Alberta is home to Amazon’s first onsite solar roof in Canada.

DYB2 opened in June 2020, and its onsite solar roof was completed at the end of 2021.

DYB2 has 100,000 square feet of operating space and has been fitted with more than 500 solar panels which generate the equivalent amount of electricity to offset 35 percent of the building’s energy consumption – approximately 213 MWh annually.

This onsite solar roof is part of Amazon’s global ambition to power operations with 100 percent renewable energy by 2025, five years ahead of the initial 2030 target.

Amazon now has a total of 274 renewable energy projects globally, including 105 utility-scale wind and solar projects and 169 solar projects installed on the rooftops of Amazon facilities worldwide.

DYB2 employs hundreds of Albertans in full and part time roles. Packages are transported to delivery stations from Amazon fulfillment and sortation centres, and then loaded into vehicles for delivery to customers.
