TORONTO, Ontario: Shipping containers have been used to house almost every item imaginable. And in one neighbourhood in Toronto, they’re housing small business owners in a local market.
Located at 707 Dundas Street West, it’s officially known as Market 707, although most people just refer to it as the Scadding Court market, since it originated as a Scadding Court Community Centre project.
The vendors, who rent the container spaces, sell an assortment of food truck and street food types of food and beverages, and gift items from around the world.
So far, the modified shipping containers have served to draw attention a wide variety of attention from media outlets, including newspapers such as The Toronto Star and The Globe and Mail, and Internet sites like openfile and blogTO, which includes mini reviews of the food being offered for sale.
The market operates Tuesday through Saturday, 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM. More information about the market can be found at its twitter feed or its website.
