Airbus planning no job cuts

by Canadian Shipper

Airbus Industrie, a unit of the European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company (EADS) NV and BAE Systems PLC, is not currently planning any job cuts in response to the aerospace sector’s difficulties following terrorist attacks in the US, according to French president Jacques Chirac.

Chirac’s comments followed a move by Airbus competitor Boeing Co. to reduce its payroll by 30,000.

But Chirac also called for emergency measures from the European Union to help the European aerospace sector.

The EU has apparently proposed 300 million euros ($CDN 427 million) by the end of the year to help the sector.
