Canada Maritime says it is following in the footsteps of the Tang, Ming and Qing traditions, with the introduction of Canmar Dynasty and Canmar Promise into its new Pacific Gateway Service.
The 2,100 teu capacity TMM Guadalajara was renamed Canmar Dynasty on its recent call at the Fraser Surrey Dock within the Fraser River Port south of Vancouver at the start of Canada Maritime’s new weekly transpacific service
which links key markets in Canada and the USA with those in Asia.
Another 2,100 teu vessel, Santa Giorgina, is to be renamed Canmar Promise at a suitable point in the schedule.
“The name Canmar Dynasty reflects the move that the Canada Maritime ‘dynasty’ is making from its origins in transAtlantic trades to the completely new waters of the Pacific,” explained Terry Burrows, Senior
Vice President of CP Ships. “And the Canmar Promise reflects the expectations our shippers have in the
delivery of good services to them on transpacific trades, just as we have delivered on the transAtlantic.
This is the first time in the history of CP Ships that the Canada Maritime brand name will be seen in Asian ports.
To date, Canada Maritime has offered intermodal container shipping services between North America and North / Mediterranean Europe via the Montreal gateway. Now, it is also able to offer a weekly service through the Fraser River Port, just south of Vancouver to China, Japan and South Korea, connecting key markets in Canada, the USA and Asia. These services are supported by a network of rail, truck and barge links to the North American, European and Asian industrial heartlands.
“We plan to develop a service pattern, through a single gateway using one of Canada’s most successful terminals, Fraser River Port in British Columbia. This is modelled on our transAtlantic services all of which go through one
Canadian port – Montreal,” he added.
To start the Pacific Gateway Service Canada Maritime has taken slots on the weekly, fixed-day service between
Fraser Surrey Dock and Shanghai, Qingdao, Pusan and Tokyo, operated by fellow CP Ships’ brand Lykes Lines.
“The transit times offered by the Canmar Dynasty, the Canmar Promise and other ships on the service are amongst the best to Asia and we have ‘promised’ to build the Canada Maritime ‘dynasty’ of first class services,
following the success of our transAtlantic Montreal Gateway Service,” said Burrows.
