Canadian National celebrates five years of Internet shipment tracking

Canadian National will soon offer its customers a new Internet tool to track automobile shipments by vehicle identification number (VIN). The tool will be available at the CN website, www.cn.ca.

“CN is announcing this new feature on the fifth anniversary of its interactive real-time Internet Shipment Tracking system. CN was the first railroad to offer its customers the ability to track CN shipments anywhere in North America, completely on the Internet. CN offers truck-competitive services and these electronic capabilities make it simpler and easier for customers to do business with CN at any time of the day or night from anywhere in the world,” said James M. Foote, CN’s executive vice-president, sales and marketing.

Since 1996, CN has upgraded its Internet capability for customers, including tracking for all shipments with a single click, the ability to obtain the estimated time of arrival of shipments; shipping instructions; local plant switching service; ordering for loaded or empty equipment into a plant facility; releasing of empty cars after unloading; and the viewing and paying of invoices interactively.
