BANGKOK, Thailand—Normally we run cute animal transportation stories in our light load section on Fridays. This story, although involving the transportation of cute animals, is anything but cute.

A man was arrested in Thailand recently after being caught attempting to smuggle 16 tiger cubs in a pickup truck.

The very young animals were stashed in plastic cartons for the trip across northern Thailand near the border to Laos.

If convicted the driver faces a fine of $13,000 (40,000 Thai baht) or four years behind bars.
