Lykes Lines introduces new ships on Africa service

Lykes Lines is upgrading its North America-Africa Service with the
introduction of two new multi-purpose vessels, the Lykes Raider and
the Lykes Runner.

The two Astrakan Mark 3 ro-ro ships will join three others already on the service – the Lykes Winner, Lykes Energizer and Lykes Inspirer. They can all carry ro-ro, breakbulk, bulk and container traffic.

“The introduction of the Lykes Raider in June and the Lykes Runner in August means we now have five identical vessels, making scheduling of traffic easier,” says Morten Veflingstad, Vice President Commercial, Multipurpose Services. “It also means all of them are able to go into the Lakes during the season.”

Lykes Lines offers two services, both operated with multi-purpose ships, between Africa and North America.

The Lykes Raider and Lykes Runner are being introduced on the East Coast Service which sails every two weeks. The five vessels are capable of handling containers, breakbulk and bulk cargoes as well as automobiles, trucks and other rolling stock.

This service calls at Montreal, Philadelphia, Savannah, Cape Town,Durban, Cape Town, Philadelphia and Montreal. Hamilton and Toronto are added during the Lakes season (April-Dec).

The Gulf Service operates monthly, northbound only, calling Durban, Cape Town, Salvador, New Orleans, Houston and Veracruz, with inducement calls at other ports in Brazil, Venezuela, the Caribbean and North America.
