Mitchell new Chair of Prince Rupert Port Authority Board

Brian Mitchell has been elected as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Prince Rupert Port Authority.

Mitchell, a Chartered Accountant with a Bachelor of Commerce from UBC, was formerly President of Canadian Stevedoring Co. Ltd., which provided stevedoring and marine terminal services in 22 ports in British Columbia.

Mitchell has also served as Director and is past Chairman of the British Columbia Maritime Employers Association and the Waterfromt Foremans Employer Association. Presently he is serving as Director of Logistec Corporation.

“The Port of Prince Rupert is facing a period of serious challenges and exciting opportunities and I am looking forward to the opportunity to work with the other Directors and staff to facilitate the successful growth of this Port, and to ensure that it is a driver for economic development across the entire Northwest transportation corridor,” said Mitchell.

The port says it is focusing on diversification as virtually all of its traditional commodities have been in decline over the past three years. Among the port’s diversification projects are the construction of a new cruise ship terminal, progress towards completion of the sulphur export terminal on Ridley Island, growth of specialty agricultural product volumes at Fairview Agport, and progress on the introduction of containerized cargo volumes.
