OTA named to Smart Growth Gridlock panel

As a result of the work that OTA has been doing over the past year arguing for government action to reduce the congestion that is strangling our highways, OTA’s Manager of Government Relations, Doug Switzer, has been appointed to a special panel set up by the Premier as part of the Smart Growth process to propose solutions to the gridlock problem.

Several meetings are planned over the next three months. A first set of recommendations is due to be submitted by the end of June.

The panel is chaired by Mississauga Mayor Hazel McCallion and is stacked with numerous municipal and provincial politicians including Oshawa Mayor Nancy Diamond and the deputy mayor of Toronto. Only three associations OTA, planning engineers and the Canadian Urban Transit Association have been invited to participate.
