The Port of Montreal Authority has announced a 3% increase in their tariffs with the exception of electricity service charges as of January 28, 2002.
The Canadian International Freight Forwarders Association says it’s not known at this point this general increase will affect individual billings by port service providers.
The port justifies this modest increase by pointing out it is required to assume additional costs for customs clearance procedures and security. As well, heavy capital expenditures to keep pace with upgrading the infrastructure over the next years will tax the port’s balance sheet considerably.
