Rail freight down, intermodal up in February

According to Statistics Canada, rail tonnage in February totaled 17.5 million metric tonnes, a dip of 7.7 percent from last year.

Intermodal tonnage, however,was up.

This segment of the rail business, which is made up of containers and trailers on flatcars, totalled 1.8 million tonnes in April, an increase of 8.6 percent compared with the same period in 2001.
