National Trucking Week even more important now, CTA says

The Canadian Trucking Alliance wants Canadians to appreciate the growing importance of trucking in our economy, and celebrate it during national Trucking Week.

The onset of COVID-19 feels like a lifetime ago but Canada’s truck drivers haven’t stopped delivering for Canadians. Because of them store shelves remain stocked, and we have the critical products, food items and medicine..

“Now, more than ever, our sector needs to celebrate our workforce,” said CTA chair, Jean Claude Fortin. “As Canada grapples with labour shortages in all sectors across the country, we as leaders of our industry need to continue to take the opportunity to remind our employees they have always been –and will continue to be – our most important resource.”

National Trucking Week (NTW), which runs from September 4 to 10, was started by the Canadian Trucking Alliance in the late 1990s as a way to embrace the industry and spotlight the contributions of the hundreds of thousands of men and women of the Canadian trucking industry who keep the country’s freight moving, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“To mark National Trucking Week this year, I want to express my thanks to all of the truck drivers who make sure Canadian families get the goods they need on time every single day. Your hard work is at the centre of keeping our economy strong, and you deserve to be celebrated,” said transport minister Omar Alghabra, in a statement.

“As our focus turns to recovering from the impacts of the pandemic, our government continues to work with the trucking industry to tackle one of the major challenges facing the sector: labour shortages. These shortages are impacting the trucking industry around the globe, and was an important topic of discussion at our government’s National Supply Chain Summit earlier this year.”

During NTW events are taking place across the country in which the trucking community comes together to celebrate the industry; recognize those who are the backbone of Canada’s economy and to promote the industry’s dedication to safety and environmental enhancement.
