IFCO launches hybrid pallet for automated supply chains

IFCO has introduced Atlas, a reusable hybrid pallet designed for automated warehouses, distribution centres and retail supply chains.

The pallet combines a hollow steel deck with a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) frame and is engineered for use across production, warehousing, transportation and retail environments. According to the company, the design is intended to provide consistent dimensions and weight while reducing issues associated with traditional wood pallets.

Atlas features a 48-by-40-inch footprint, weighs 58 pounds and includes closed runners designed to support movement through automated material handling systems. The pallet is also equipped with digital tracking capabilities that provide location, inventory and cold-chain monitoring information.

According to IFCO, the pallet is manufactured with fire-retardant materials and is resistant to water and mould. The company said replaceable components can extend service life, while steel and HDPE materials can be recycled at end of use.

“Atlas responds to the realities our customers face today: more automation, greater scrutiny around fire performance, and growing pressure to manage supply chains more efficiently,” said Mike Pooley, chief executive officer of IFCO.

The pallet is available through the company’s pooling program, allowing customers to access pallets without owning and managing their own fleet.
