NEWARK, New Jersey – DHL Global Forwarding has opened its new $1.6 million facility in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The building has 20,000 square feet of dedicated perishable handling warehouse space. It will serve the Midwest, Northeast, South and Southeast regions of the United States, and includes a bonded warehouse and it part of the DHL Global Forwarding Free Trade Zone footprint.

“This new DHL Global Forwarding building…expands our global network for the LSH [life sciences and healthcare] sector. This is especially important now during these challenging times, when temperature controlled logistics is crucial in helping customers navigate the pandemic,” said David Goldberg, DHL Global Forwarding, US.

The building is a bonded Container Freight Station (CFS), and contains three temperature-controlled chambers that together measure close to 20,000 square-feet, built with variable temperature capabilities to process pharmaceuticals, biotech or medical devices that require a temperature-controlled environment.

The new facility in Indianapolis will be added to the list of established Certified Life Sciences Stations to support DHL’s Thermonet solution for temperature-controlled air freight transportation. After completing the certification, the new facility will become one of eight Certified Life Sciences Stations in the U.S. with specific storage capabilities dedicated for life science and healthcare goods. Thermonet is DHL’s monitoring and visibility program for life science and healthcare products.

The facility’s certifications will also include Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT), ISO 9001, and ISO 22301 (BCM). The building is a GDP compliant handling and facility operations and all staff are Dangerous Goods Certified Personnel.

In addition to the new facility, DHL Global Forwarding is planning a new Life Sciences and Healthcare Freighter service from Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and Indianapolis.
