Atlantic Gateway minister meets with advisory council

HALIFAX: Collaboration, global competitiveness and the implementation of the Atlantic Gateway Strategy were on the agenda during a recent meeting between Keith Ashfield, Minister for the Atlantic Gateway, and the Atlantic Gateway Advisory Council.

During the meeting, the council agreed to identify key policy and regulatory issues from a private-sector perspective and continue to provide advice, according to the ministry. In the meantime, the Minister will continue to meet semi-annually with the council to support the public-private sector partnership.

“The advisory council provided valuable advice during the developmental stage of the Atlantic Gateway Strategy,” said Ashfield. “We believe that Atlantic Canada is uniquely poised to capture additional economic opportunities as a result of Canada’s Atlantic Gateway.”

The council is a private-sector organization comprising 13 CEO-level representatives from transportation providers and system users across Atlantic Canada. The council works with governments to identify and address issues affecting the competitiveness of the Atlantic Gateway and Trade Corridor.

“The advisory council welcomes the opportunity to collaborate with the minister to highlight and discuss issues impacting the movement of international trade through and the competitiveness of the Atlantic Gateway and Trade Corridor,” said David Oxner, executive director, Atlantic Gateway Advisory Council.
