Chinese vessels for Canada Steamship Lines

MONTREAL, Quebec: Canada Steamship Lines (CSL) is adding to its Great Lakes fleet.

The company has ordered two new gearless bulk vessels from the Yangfan Shipyard in China. The “trillium class” ships are due to be delivered in spring 2014. CSL already has four other similar ships, and it also has the option to purchase two additional ones.

The self-unloading ships are rated at 36,100 deadweight tonnage. They will be the maximum size allowable the St. Lawrence Seaway system, and use International Maritime Association (IMO) Tier II compliant engines.
