Toronto, ON—Results published late December by the Canadian General Freight Index (CGFI) indicate the total cost of ground transportation for Canadian Shippers increased by 0.8 percent in October, when compared with September results.

The Base Rate Index, which excludes the impact of Accessorial Charges assessed by carriers, increased by 1.2 percent when compared to September 2013.

Average Fuel Surcharges assessed by Carriers increased marginally. Fuel was 20.96 percent of Base Rates in October versus 20.12 percent in September.

“This is the third consecutive month of total cost increases.” said Doug Payne, president & COO of Nulogx, which produces the index. “Total costs & Base Freight costs are closing the gap at 1.0 percent & 0.96 percent respectively below last year.” continued Payne.
