Labour agreement at Sheet Harbour

HALIFAX, Nova Scotia—Workers and management at the Port of Sheet Harbour have agreed to new contract terms.
The deal between 27 workers represented by the Bluewater Stevedores Union Local 2065 and the Halifax Port Authority’s (HPA) Port of Sheet Harbour Management Inc subsidiary will last until the end of 2015. No other details of the contract were disclosed.
In a jointly issued statement representatives from both sides expressed their pleasure at the agreement.
“With a new contract in place, we can assure cargo customers that the Port of Sheet Harbour has a skilled and stable work force that can move product efficiently and competitively for years to come. There is a lot of potential in this port and reliable labour is at its core,” said George Malec, vice-president of business development and operations at the Halifax Port Authority.
“We’re pleased to have agreed to a new contract to continue labour operations at the Port of Sheet Harbour. With Port of Sheet Harbour Management Inc at the helm, we look forward to the future growth and development of cargo moved through the Port for the long-term benefit of our entire community,” said Jason Josey, president of the Bluewater Stevedores Union Local 2065.
The Port of Sheet Harbour is a deep water port configured for breakbulk and special project cargo operations.
