Next step taken in Montreal bridge project

MONTREAL: The next stage in the construction on the new St Lawrence bridge in Montreal is officially under way.

Denis Lebel, the Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, announced that the federal environmental assessment phase has now begun.

The project is designed to replace the existing Champlain Bridge and will connect the Island of Montreal to the South Shore.

The full project has six major components. Besides construction of the new bridge and demolition of the old one, Autoroute 10 will be aligned with the bridge and Autoroute 15 will be reconstructed and widened. Work will also be done on Nuns’ Island, including the construction of a new Nuns’ Island Bridge.
