Who’s on the move this week [October 1, 2013]

Mississauga, Ontario-based 3PL Wheels Group Inc has made two appointments. Walt Whitt, who was president of the company’s US Clipper division will now be the executive team member responsible for the corporate mergers and acquisitions group. Tim Boyce, current chief marketing officer, will retain those duties, but will also become president of Clipper.

Sylvie Vachon, president and chief executive officer of the Montreal Port Authority, has been named chair of the board of directors of the Association of Canadian Port Authorities (ACPA).

Richard Clarke has been appointed to the board of directors of the Comox Valley Airport Commission.

Bayport, Minnesota window manufacturer Andersen Corp, promoted Salvatore Abbate senior vice-president of sales and marketing after the retirement of Craig Evanich, who previously held the role. As part of his new duties, Abbate is now responsible for logistics and order management.

Marta Stewart, Norfolk Southern

Norfolk Southern Corp has made a number of management appointments. Marta Stewart is the new executive vice-president and CFO, succeeding John Rathbone, who is retiring on November 1. Other leadership promotions include Clyde “Jake” Allison to vice-president of audit and compliance, Fredric Ehlers to vice-president of information technology, Jerry Hall to vice-president of network and service management, Thomas Hurlbut to vice-president and controller, Denise Hutson to corporate secretary, Alan Shaw to vice-president of intermodal operations, and Thomas Werner to vice-president and treasurer. These promotions (except Hutson’s, which has already occurred), will also take effect on November 1.

Joe Longo has been named vice-president of the professional services group for SERUS, a Santa, Clara, California-based supply chain analysis firm.

Crystal Call Maggelet, president of FJ Management Inc (formerly Flying J Inc) has joined the board of directors of Savage. Savage is a Salt Lake City, Utah-based supply chain management services company.

Jacksonville, Florida railroad company CSX Transportation has named Bob Frulla as the new vice-president of transportation for the northern region. He succeeds Gary Bethel, who is retiring.

Ryan Ellis, Virgin Cargo

Ascot, UK-based Virgin Atlantic Cargo has promoted Ryan Ellis to the position of regional sales manager, Continental Europe.

Penske Logistics of Reading Pennsylvania has appointed Michael Casidy to the newly created position, managing director of Mexico. He will be based in Saltillo, Mexico, the logistics company’s Mexican headquarters.

Mike Wright, executive director at Jaguar Land Rover, has been asked by the UK Labour Party to conduct a review of the country’s manufacturing supply chain.

Masao Kodama, SATO

Hamburg, Germany-based shipping company Hapag-Lloyd has announced management changes that will come into effect next year. As of July 1, 2014, Rolf Habben-Jansen, who was formerly CEO of freight forwarder Damco NV, will be the new chair of the executive board, succeeding Michael Behrendt. Anthony Firmin has been picked to succeed Ulrich Kranich as a member of the executive board and chief operating officer.

Masao Kodama has been promoted to the role of chief marketing officer, of Toyko, Japan-based SATO Holdings Corp, a company that provides barcode printing, labeling, and RFID solutions.
