New data from Trucking HR Canada (THRC) shows employment in Alberta’s trucking and logistics sector declined sharply in 2025, even as truck driver employment remained relatively stable.
The organization says fourth-quarter employment in Alberta’s trucking and logistics industry fell eight per cent year-over-year to 98,800 workers, compared with 107,400 workers in 2024. Nationally, employment in the sector declined 1.2 per cent over the same period.
“These job losses are significant for Alberta’s trucking and logistics industry,” says Craig Faucette, chief operating officer, THRC. “On a more positive note, employment of truck drivers remains more stable compared to a year ago. The overall labour market picture for trucking and logistics in Alberta is mixed, but the resilience of the province’s driving workforce is reassuring.”
Trucking HR Canada says employers in both Alberta and across Canada appear to be hiring cautiously amid broader economic uncertainty.

Nationally, the number of active job seekers in the sector fell 3.9 per cent over the same period.
