CABC report says stakes are high for USMCA renegotiation

A new report from the Canadian American Business Council (CABC) and Oxford Economics breaks down the economic connection between the U.S. and Canada.

According to the study, a successful renegotiation of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) could create 137,000 U.S. jobs and 98,000 Canadian jobs by 2027.

A total breakdown of the agreement and higher tariffs would cost 214,000 U.S. and 102,000 Canadian jobs, putting another 248,000 Canadian transit and warehousing roles at risk.

The report found higher tariffs won’t boost manufacturing or lower trade deficits.

“The U.S.-Canada relationship is one of the most integrated economic partnerships in the world, supporting millions of jobs, driving innovation and strengthening our collective competitiveness,” said Beth Burke, chief executive officer of the Canadian American Business Council. “This report highlights the extent of integration and how we are stronger together.”
