Manitoba announces $100 million in tariff supports

The Manitoba government is introducing more than $100 million in supports to help workers, businesses and producers respond to new U.S. tariffs.

The province says the tariffs will affect manufacturing, agri‑food, transportation, construction, wholesale trade, aerospace, forestry, steel, machinery, beverages and related supply chains.

“Canadians are united in the face of growing threats to our economy and sovereignty from the Trump administration,” said Jamie Moses, minister of business, mining, trade and job creation.

“Our agriculture sector is a cornerstone of Manitoba’s economy and vital to the future of our province,” said agriculture minister Ron Kostyshyn. “We will continue working alongside Manitoba producers to ensure agriculture remains strong, competitive and growing for generations to come.”

Supports include:

• $50 million for the Manitoba Trade Resilience Loan Program
• $500,000 increase for the Export Support Program
• $250,000 for export advisory services
• $500,000 to Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters for the Made‑in‑Manitoba initiative
• $500,000 for interprovincial trade missions for alcohol producers
• $13.7 million for a Tariff Workforce Stabilization and Youth Employment Program
• Deferral of provincially administered tax payments from Sept. 1 to Dec. 31, 2026

MASC changes:

• Operating Credit Guarantee Program increased to $3 million
• Guaranteed loan portion raised to 33.33 per cent
• Diversification Loan Guarantee eligibility expanded
• Maximum diversification loan increased to $5 million
• Sector‑specific supports for honey producers

“Many working families are worried about their economic futures because of Trump’s tariffs,” said Kevin Rebeck, president of the Manitoba Federation of Labour.
