Daimler Truck North America to build new U.S. manufacturing plant

Daimler Truck North America (DTNA) plans to build a new commercial vehicle manufacturing facility in the United States as part of a long-term strategy to expand production capacity and strengthen its North American manufacturing network.

The company said the greenfield facility will increase manufacturing capacity for vocational and on-highway trucks while incorporating advanced production technologies and flexible manufacturing systems to improve efficiency and operational resilience.

This investment reflects our confidence in the future of commercial transportation and the strength of the North American market,” said John O’Leary, president and CEO of DTNA. “We are building for the future by creating a manufacturing network that is more flexible, resilient, and aligned with our customers’ evolving needs. This facility will strengthen our ability to deliver industry-leading products while supporting long-term growth in the United States.”

DTNA is evaluating multiple potential locations for the facility, with site selection based on factors including supply chain access, workforce availability, transportation infrastructure and the overall business environment.

Construction is expected to begin in late 2026 following final site selection, with production targeted to start in 2029. The company said the facility is expected to create thousands of jobs over time and support the local economy through partnerships with suppliers, educational institutions and community organizations.

DTNA said the investment is part of its ongoing efforts to align its manufacturing footprint with long-term business requirements. The company currently operates manufacturing facilities in North Carolina and South Carolina, while its headquarters and engineering hub are in Portland, Ore.
