The City of Brampton says Socomec Canada has opened a new advanced manufacturing facility in the city, creating 170 jobs and expanding the company’s Canadian footprint.
The 148,000-square-foot facility at 201 Westcreek Blvd. is Socomec’s largest in Canada and marks the company’s third location in Brampton. The city said the company now employs more than 500 people across its Brampton operations.
Mayor Patrick Brown said the expansion strengthens Brampton’s advanced manufacturing sector and supports infrastructure tied to the digital economy.
“Socomec Canada’s expansion is a powerful example of how global companies are choosing Brampton to grow and invest,” Brown said in a release.
Socomec manufactures high-efficiency transformers and power distribution units used in data centres, hospitals and other high-demand facilities. The company said the expansion is intended to help meet growing demand for energy-efficient power solutions, particularly in the data infrastructure sector.
“The Brampton site is a direct answer to the rapid growth in data-center demand by bringing critical power manufacturing closer to where it’s needed,” said Jean Guay, subsidiary director at Socomec.
The city said the investment aligns with growth in Brampton’s advanced manufacturing and innovation sectors, adding that recent expansions by companies including Mobile Climate Control, Marcangelo Foods and Coca-Cola Canada Bottling have also contributed to the city’s industrial growth.
