Pedestrian awareness camera helps improve warehouse safety

Yale Lift Truck Technologies has introduced a new pedestrian awareness camera system, expanding its Yale Reliant portfolio of operator assist technologies aimed at improving warehouse safety.

The system can detect pedestrians within a 16-foot range and a 110-degree field of view, providing automatic alerts to lift truck operators. It is available with audible and visual alerts, and an optional traction alert that automatically slows the truck when a pedestrian is detected.

“Operator awareness is a foundational element of lift truck and pedestrian safety, and the Yale Reliant technology portfolio is designed to provide a helping hand for warehouses facing an increasingly transient labour pool and inexperienced lift truck operators,” said Brad Long, global activation manager at Yale Lift Truck Technologies. “We’re continuing to target the challenges of real-world warehouse environments with research and development, and the pedestrian awareness camera solution offers the capability and configurability that real-world warehouse environments need.”

The camera, mounted to the rear of the lift truck, is optimized for speeds of five miles per hour or less, giving operators time to react. It disengages alerts once pedestrians are no longer in view.

Yale Reliant operator assist technologies launched in 2021 and have accumulated over 24 million hours of runtime on more than 8,300 units in operation.
