New 6,800 TEU container ship added to P&O Nedlloyd fleet (July 30, 2001)

by Canadian Shipper

P&O Nedlloyd has added a new post-Panamax size container ship to its fleet, the “P&O Nedlloyd Houtman”.

The 6,800 TEU vessel was named after Cornelis de Houtman, the sixteenth century explorer.

The “P&O Nedlloyd Houtman” is the third of four new “whale” class vessels entering the Europe-Asia service this year. Built by Hyundai Heavy Industries in Korea, she is 300 metres long and 43 metres wide and has a service speed of 24.5 knots. She will fly the Dutch flag.
