Walmart Canada and Walmart Foundation commit US$250,000 to Red Cross wildfire appeal

Walmart Canada and the Walmart Foundation are committing US$250,000 to the Canadian Red Cross 2026 British Columbia Wildfires Appeal to support people affected by ongoing wildfires across the province.

The donation adds to Walmart Canada’s long relationship with the Red Cross, which includes more than $80 million in contributions over 23 years.

“When disasters strike, the Red Cross is there, responding quickly and providing assistance to Canadians during some of their most difficult moments,” said Sara Gugula, chief people officer at Walmart Canada. “As the British Columbia community continues to rally against the wildfires, we’re here to support them alongside the Walmart Foundation to direct funds where they’re needed the most.”

Associates provided evacuees with drinking water, snacks and requested supplies such as personal care items and phone chargers. The store also supported people sheltering in the parking lot during evacuation alerts.

“When you see families displaced from their homes, you realize how important community support can be,” said David Lucente, store manager of the Penticton Walmart Supercentre. “I’m proud of how our associates came together to lend a hand.”

Walmart Canada’s annual giving campaign raised more than $3.9 million for local disaster relief this year, including a $1 million donation from the company. Customers contributed by donating or rounding up purchases at checkout.

Donations to the Canadian Red Cross support emergency response and longer‑term recovery for people affected by disasters.
