Manchester plans UK logistics hub

LONDON, United Kingdom—Property developer and airport operator, the Manchester Airports Group wants to spend over $158 million (£100 million) to create a state-of-the-art logistics centre.
The World Logistics Hub, as it will be known, will be located in the southern part of Greater Manchester’s Enterprise Zone at the Manchester Airport in the UK. The current plans are to create a facility of between 112,000 and 130,000 square metres (1.2 and 1.4 million square feet).
The office and warehouse space—comprised of small- and medium-sized logistics units—will be certified as environmentally friendly under LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) and BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) guidelines.
According to the Group, the hub will have access to “a full range of air-to-road transfer, assembly and processing activities for freight forwarders and other logistics businesses with easy access to the airport’s apron, train station and the UK motorway network.”
The project is part of the $1 billion (£650 million) Airport City scheme which has the goal of developing the Manchester Airport region into a retail, commercial and leisure centre.
