Workforce leaders from the transportation, manufacturing, agriculture, mining, tourism and biotechnology sectors gathered in Ottawa for the inaugural National Workforce Leadership Summit to discuss labour shortages, skills development, workforce mobility and artificial intelligence adoption.
The event, organized by the National Sectoral Workforce Development Councils, brought together employers, educators, policymakers and workforce organizations to explore workforce challenges affecting industries across Canada.
According to organizers, discussions focused on workforce transformation, labour market intelligence, workforce participation, workforce sustainability and the impact of artificial intelligence on future jobs.
“No single industry can solve Canada’s workforce challenges on its own,” said Philip Mondor, president and CEO of Tourism HR Canada. “Labour shortages, shifting skills requirements and economic transformation are affecting employers across the economy.”
Participants also examined opportunities to improve labour mobility and strengthen workforce resilience as employers respond to changing skills requirements and technological change.
