The Port of Corner Brook, LOGISTEC and Nunavut Eastern Arctic Shipping (NEAS) have launched a new liner service connecting Western Newfoundland with Arctic communities.
The service was marked by the arrival of the ice-class vessel UKPIK at the Port of Corner Brook. According to the organizations, LOGISTEC will manage marine logistics activities including cargo receiving, unloading, storage, consolidation, staging and vessel loading for shipments destined for the Canadian Arctic.
“Corner Brook is uniquely positioned to support Northern and Arctic logistics,” said Kelly Smith, CEO of the Corner Brook Port Corporation. “For us, this opportunity is about more than moving cargo. It is about opening new markets and creating new opportunities for Newfoundland and Labrador companies.”
According to the organizations, the service strengthens supply chain connections between Atlantic Canada and Northern communities while creating additional flexibility for Arctic cargo movements. The partners said the port could also serve as a logistics hub for cargo supporting mining, critical minerals, infrastructure and wind energy projects across Newfoundland and the Arctic.
