Descartes launches AI Agent Control Plane for supply chain workflows

Descartes Systems Group has introduced its new Agent Control Plane, a platform designed to help artificial intelligence agents coordinate and execute multi-step supply chain workflows across applications, trading partners and business systems.

Unveiled at the company’s 2026 Innovation Forum in Chicago, the platform is built on the Descartes Global Logistics Network and is designed to allow AI agents to manage operational tasks while operating within customer-defined permissions, approval processes and human oversight.

According to the company, the Agent Control Plane combines data and connectivity from the Descartes network with capabilities from its existing logistics applications, enabling AI agents to coordinate work across multiple systems, respond to new information and approvals, and maintain an auditable record of their actions.

“Even with connected systems, supply chain teams devote significant time to interpreting updates from emails, messages and portals, rekeying information and coordinating next steps to move orders forward,” said Ken Wood, executive vice-president of product management at Descartes. “The Agent Control Plane brings our logistics capabilities together so AI agents can take on more of that work across applications, conversations and company boundaries.”

The company said the platform is intended to reduce manual handoffs, accelerate responses to supply chain events and allow teams to focus on exceptions and customer relationships rather than routine coordination tasks.
