Herschel Parts streamlines shipping with Descartes software

Herschel Parts, a manufacturer and distributor of aftermarket agricultural replacement parts, said it has reduced manual shipping administration by about 10 hours per week using Descartes Pacejet, a multicarrier shipping solution integrated with its ERP system.

The company said 98 per cent of shipments now move through a single workflow covering parcel and less-than-truckload carriers. According to Herschel, the integration eliminated manual re-entry of tracking information and shipping data while providing immediate shipment visibility to customer service teams.

Herschel said access to consolidated carrier rates has also helped identify shipping options that are 5 per cent to 10 per cent less expensive on individual shipments. The company ships approximately 70 per cent of its freight via LTL carriers, with the remainder moving by parcel.

According to Descartes, the shipping platform allows users to compare parcel and LTL rates based on shipment characteristics, dimensions and accessorial charges before selecting a carrier.
