Lineage expands Calgary cold storage

Lineage has broken ground on an expansion of its Foothills facility in Calgary. The facility is expected to serve customers who aim to export meat and other products to Asia and other markets around the world.

Expected to add 30 percent more capacity, the expansion is planned to include 1,500 pallet positions for blast freezing, a critical feature for the export of products like protein. The Foothills site will see expanded dock space and doors.

On completion of the expansion, the facility is expected to span approximately 200,000 square feet and hold over 24,000 pallet positions. This expansion is expected to bring Lineage’s total capacity in the Alberta market to over 75,000 pallet positions.

Lineage purchased Versacold in 2022, gaining a market controlling foothold in Canada. Lineage picked up Versacold’s 24 temperature-controlled facilities comprising 114 million cubic feet of storage and 361,000 pallet positions. Its network spanned nine provinces and includes properties in Canada’s most populous metropolitan markets, including Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver, Edmonton, and Montreal.

Lineage Logistics acquired Vaudreuil-Dorion, Quebec-based Marc Villeneuve Inc. in April 2021, and Ontario Refrigerated Services (ORS) in July 2020. Marc Villeneuve specialized in ice cream distribution, with Chapman’s as its main client. ORS is based in Southwestern Ontario and serves local farmers.

Lineage now has a global network of over 400 facilities, totalling more than 2.5 billion cubic feet of capacity across countries in North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific.
