TORONTO, Ont. — The cost of ground transportation in Canada increased 1.2% in October, according to the latest Canadian General Freight Index compiled by Nulogx.
The base rate index, which excludes accessorial charges, went up 1.4% compared to September.
Fuel surcharges accounted for 19.35% of the base rate in October, down from 20.75% in September.
“Despite the decrease in fuel costs, there was still an increase in total freight costs,” said Doug Payne, president and COO, Nulogx. “This increase was driven by truckload costs, as the four-month rolling average of LTL costs showed a slight decrease.”
