Heiner Murmann has accepted an invitation to join Metro Supply Chain Group Inc‘s advisory board. Murmann has over 20 years’ experience in logistics across the Americas, Europe and Asia. He spent the better part of his career at DB Schenker, one of the top three global logistics companies with revenues in excess of EUR 15 billion. He served as CEO for the Americas before becoming a member of the board of management, overseeing air and ocean freight. In his advisory role, Murmann will work closely with Metro’s management team to help steer strategic growth in all markets with an emphasis on the company’s expanding international operations.
After 34 years of service in various companies within the KION Group, CFO Karl-Heinz Birkner will be retiring on February 1, 2018. He will be succeeded by Thorsten Hofmann, currently head of corporate controlling at the KION Group in Wiesbaden. Birkner was appointed to the management board at STILL in February 2016, having previously been a member of it between 2009 and 2011. Before transferring to Hamburg, he was the head of accounting, tax, and financial services at the KION Group. After graduating with a degree in economics, he started his career in 1984 at Linde AG and held several management positions over the years, primarily in the industrial truck business. Hofmann began his career in 1991 in controlling at Linde AG. In 1994, he transferred to Linde Material Handling and held a number of management positions in finance and controlling in Germany and abroad. In 2013, he was appointed the head of group-wide Controlling at KION Group.
Plug Power Inc has elected Luke Schneider to its Board of Directors. Schneider has deep C-level experience in the automotive marketplace and will be a critical resource in driving the next phase of Plug Power’s growth. He serves as CEO of Silvercar, an Austin, Texas-based start-up that has built a technology platform for a new breed of rental car business and other vehicle mobility applications. Prior to Silvercar, Schneider was the chief technology officer of Zipcar, and worked in various positions with Ford. Throughout his career, he has emerged as a leader in the evolving auto industry, promoting critical trends in electrification, automation and shared services.
Luzius Wirth has been appointed CEO Swissport UK & Ireland. Wirth will remain in his additional role as EVP Group Services. As a member of the group’s executive, he will continue to report directly to Eric Born, group president and CEO Swissport International Ltd. Wirth joined Swissport in 2012 and since 2014 he has held responsibility for Swissport’s Group Services. Tommy Watt has retired from his daily activities after holding a number of senior managerial positions in the ground handling industry over the past 40 years. Tommy joined Swissport following the acquisition of Servisair in 2013.
