Appointments, promotions, moves and changes in the supply chain sector this week

Mark Okerstrom

Mark Okerstrom has been appointed president and COO of freight brokerage Convoy. In this newly created role, Okerstrom will oversee finance, operations, sales, marketing, supply, and marketplace growth. Okerstrom more than 13 years experience in Fortune 500 leadership roles. Most recently he was president and CEO of Expedia Group, Inc. Before joining Expedia, Okerstrom worked with global consultancy Bain & Company in Boston and San Francisco, UBS Investment Bank, and law firm Freshfield Bruckhaus Deringer in London. He earned a MBA from Harvard Business School and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of British Columbia.

Joe Bento

Aries Worldwide Logistics is launching a new commercial organization that will be led by its first-ever chief commercial officer, Joe Bento. Bento will oversee the company’s field sales, as well as the global freight forwarding network. He will report to Aries owner and CEO, Jeff McIntyre. Bento joins Aries from Radiant Logistics where he held several positions including COO. He spent the majority of his career as president, North America, and CMO at EGL, Inc. EGL was eventually acquired by CEVA Logistics where Bento served as president of the Americas before becoming chief sales officer at SEKO Logistics.

Varcode has appointed an advisory board of food safety specialists. David Farcy is chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine and director of emergency Medicine Critical Care at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, Florida. Farcy also serves as president for the American Academy of Emergency Medicine and has served on that board of directors since 2015. Ben Chapman is a professor and food safety extension specialist at North Carolina State University. Domenic Veneziano is the former director of the Division of Import Operations and Policy for the Food & Drug Administration (FDA). Previously Veneziano established and directed the FDA’s first 24/7 office to help prevent terrorism against the U.S. food supply.
