CP and Smart Sand to build transload facility

CALGARY, Alberta: Canadian Pacific Railway and Smart Sand are working together to supply key frac sand to the oil and gas producing regions of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Montana and North Dakota.

The first project of the new partnership will be to build a transload facility in Makoti, North Dakota. From there, the Northern White frac sand will be to the Bakken formation area of the Williston Basin, the Eagle Ford formations, and the Utica and Marcellus Shales.

Smart Sand’s primary facility opened in June and is located on the CP rail line in Oakdale, Wisconsin. It has an initial processing capacity of more than one million tons per year and is designed to provide direct rail access for unit trains.
