A.P. Moller – Maersk has agreed to sell Maersk Training and its subsidiary, Maersk H2S Safety Services, to Open Gate Capital, an industrial corporate carve-out specialist.
Maersk said the sale reflects its focus on its strategic brands while recognizing the strong market positions established by the two businesses. Under Open Gate Capital, Maersk said the companies will focus on training, gas detection, safety and workforce competency solutions.
“Maersk Training has built a strong business with highly skilled colleagues, trusted customer relationships and a solid foundation for future growth,” said Katharina Poehlmann, head of strategy at A.P. Moller – Maersk and chairwoman of Maersk Training. “We believe this transaction will enable Maersk Training to continue developing under an owner with training, safety and competency solutions as a key focus area, creating new opportunities for customers, employees and the business alike.”
Maersk Training has provided specialized training, competency development and safety services for more than 40 years to industries including energy, maritime, renewables and logistics.
“This is an important milestone for Maersk Training. The agreement recognises the strong business we have built together over the past 40-plus years,” said David Skov, CEO of Maersk Training. “While many of us are proud of our Maersk heritage, we are equally excited about the opportunities this next chapter brings under an owner that has experience in unlocking long-term value and will enable our strategic focus. Until the transaction closes, our focus remains unchanged: serving our customers, supporting one another and delivering on our commitments and ambitions.”
Maersk Training will continue to operate as part of A.P. Moller – Maersk until the transaction closes. The company said employees, customers and partners should expect business to continue as usual during the transition.
Maersk H2S Safety Services provides gas detection and safety services to the onshore and offshore energy industries.
