LanChile Cargo and Lufthansa Cargo to offer joint cargo service between Europe and South America

Lan Chile S.A., Chile’s largest domestic and international airline, says that its subsidiary LanChile Cargo, has signed an agreement with Lufthansa Cargo to cooperate in the air cargo market between Europe and South America.

From October 2002, Lufthansa Cargo and LanChile Cargo will be offering a joint cargo service between Europe and South America, with Lufthansa flying MD-11 cargo aircraft five times per week from Frankfurt to Sao Paulo, including two flights operating via Rio de Janeiro and two via Buenos Aires. LanChile Cargo will have a permanent capacity allotment on these services in both directions.

At the same time LanChile Cargo will be increasing its cargo services to and from Europe from the current level of twice per week to three times. Flights will be routed to Frankfurt rather than Paris-Charles de Gaulle. Lufthansa Cargo will in turn be allotted capacity in both directions on the Frankfurt – Quito, Frankfurt – Lima and Frankfurt – Santiago de Chile routes, as well as on Frankfurt – Montevideo and Mexico City – Frankfurt flights.

As part of the agreed joint deal, Lufthansa Cargo will be serving the East coast of South America, while LanChile Cargo covers destinations on the West coast of the continent.
